Five things which can affect business electricity prices

Businesses face a
number of expenses throughout the year and can sometimes struggle to manage
them, something which has been exacerbated by the recent economic problems.
This means that a number of businesses are looking for ways to reduce some of
their most common overheads, such as the cost of their business electricity.
Energy prices can be affected by a number of different aspects, but what are
they?
Business electricity is designed to offer companies with a more flexible and tailored service, meeting the specific needs of businesses as opposed to homes. Business electricity prices are therefore different to costs for home services, but are affected by similar variables. Here are five things which can affect business electricity prices;
1. Consumption
The amount of electricity and energy which you consume will obviously be directly proportional to the price which you pay. Businesses will typically have a larger demand for electricity and energy services, with offices powering a number of electronic devices simultaneously throughout the day. Business electricity prices will vary depending upon how much energy is used. Keeping consumption low will therefore help to keep costs low.
2. Size
The size of the business and of the premises will affect the cost of business electricity. A number of business electricity suppliers will offer different services for businesses of different sizes to help them manage their energy use. A number of products are available in order to assist businesses with the monitoring of their energy use too. Smart meters are one example of these and are intended to be implemented across all small and medium sized businesses by 2018. Smart meters help businesses to keep an accurate “real time” record of the energy they consume, allowing them to monitor it more efficiently.
3. Tariff
Some businesses may be surprised to find that they are still on something known as ‘demand rate’ despite having been in their ‘new’ premises for a long period of time. This is because businesses are automatically put onto this rate or tariff when they move premises and it is the responsibility of the business in question to have this changed. Business electricity suppliers will offer a number of different tariffs and rates to help keep costs low and may even offer a fixed rate on their energy.
4. Efficiency
Energy efficiency is one of the biggest topics currently in circulation, especially in the business world. Not only do energy efficient products help to protect the environment, but they also enable businesses to save money. Ultimately, energy efficiency leads back to consumption: using less energy means saving more money.
5. Supplier
Last, but by no means least, the business electricity supplier will also affect the price which is paid. As stated, suppliers will have a number of different tariffs and rates for their energy services. These will be tailored to different needs and business sizes and will affect the price accordingly. It is therefore important that businesses consider all of the options available to them when changing tariffs, ensuring they get the best possible rate.
