Late result for Barclays hunt

Barclays' new chief executive is unlikely to be announced until September at the earliest. This became clear yesterday as Charles Miller Smith, a director of Unilever, emerged as one of the short-listed candidates for the job, which is now expected to go to a Briton outside the banking field.

Mr Miller Smith, former finance director of Unilever, runs its food business in southern Europe.
