Merger talks
AIR CANADA, Canada's leading airline, lost Cdollars 129m ( pounds 56m)in the second quarter of this year, taking first-half losses to Cdollars 293m. The airline is negotiating a merger with its rival, Canadian Airlines International, owned by PWA Corporation of Calgary. In the last 18 months, the two airlines have lost a combined Cdollars 748m in a fight for market share.
