Nationwide sees house prices rise in some regions

The latest house price index from Nationwide shows an overall drop in prices of 5.1 per cent on an annual basis, but a crop of price rises in some regions, writes Vivien Goldsmith. For the whole of the UK, prices fell 0.5 per cent in the three months to September. But while prices dropped 2.9 per cent in the Midlands and 2.7 per cent in Greater London, they rose 1.9 per cent in Wales, 1.3 per cent in Yorkshire and Humberside, 1.2 per cent in Northern Ireland and 0.6 per cent in Scotland.
