Aggreko will be the exclusive power supplier for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, after securing a £37m contract.

The company, which worked on the Beijing Olympics and the World Cup, said it had also been signed up as a sponsor for the Games, as well as winning the power deal from the London Organising Committee.

The 2012 Olympic contract will see the company provide around 220 megawatts of power – more than the 160 megawatts it supplied for the Beijing Games.

However, its work at the World Cup was its largest ever events contract by value, and Aggreko raised profit expectations last Friday, as work on the football tournament boosted first-half revenues by nearly £29m.

The group, founded in the Netherlands in 1962, joined the FTSE 100 index last year.
