Aldi and Lidl star in slow market

Sales growth in the grocery market slowed "sharply" last month but the discounters Aldi and Lidl have continued their strong recent recovery.

According to KantarWorldpanel, sales grew byjust 2.6 per cent over the 12 weeks to 20 March, down markedly on the 3.9 per cent rise over the previousmonth's figures.

This means the increase in sales fell below grocery price inflation, which was 4 per cent over the period, for the first time since July 2009.

But Aldi and Lidl both grew their market share strongly to 3.1 per cent and 2.5 per cent, respectively, for the 12 weeks.
