Anglo American Platinum (Amplats) said it has lost 1.1bn rand (£78m) in revenues as a result of strikes at its mines in South Africa.

It said attendance at its key mines around Rustenburg, near Johannesburg, has remained below 20 per cent in the four weeks since the strikes began, cutting platinum output by 67,000 ounces. It has issued force majeure notices to its chrome clients, but said its ability to deliver platinum group metals and base metals was unaffected at this stage.
