Arm flexes its muscles

Apple’s use of next-generation processors in its new iPhone 5s helped the microchip designer Arm beat profit expectations in the third quarter. But its shares fell 3 per cent amid fears of a slowdown in smartphone sales. Arm, whose chip designs power over 95 per cent of smartphones and most tablets, made a profit of £92.6m, up 36 per cent on a year ago.
