Tens of thousands of tubs of Bisto gravy granules have been pulled from shelves after manufacturer Premiere Foods discovered that some may contain shards of metal.
The metal shards were caused by a fault in a filler bowl on the production line after some maintenance had taken place. A spokesman said that this caused some rubbing against the metal bolts which resulted in shards of metal getting into the granules.
Two different Bisto for Chicken Gravy Granules products, totalling some 35,000 tubs, have had to be recalled.
Bisto said that one single batch of 170g Bisto for Chicken Gravy Granules and 170g Reduced Salt Bisto for Chicken Gravy Granules could contain small metal pieces.
These products have been distributed nationwide after leaving the Premier Foods factory in Worksop, Nottingham.
The affected batch have the code: BBE JAN 2017 L5208 printed on the underside.
Bisto said that anyone who had purchased Bisto from this batch could call 0800 085 3959 for a full refund.
