Dunelm predicted its annual profits would be ahead of hopes after a better-than-expected finish to the financial year at the homewares retailer.

Changes to furniture and storage departments and the roll-out of arts and crafts to more stores helped sales rise by 8 per cent in the year to 3 July. While this included a modest drop in the last 10 weeks of the period, City analysts said sales were stronger than expected, particularly given strong comparisons with a year earlier and uncertain consumer conditions.

City analysts also pointed to Dunelm's potential for expansion, particularly in London and the South-east, saying this made it an attractive stock in the retail sector.
