The gas and electricity supplier EDF Energy agreed to give £200,000 to charity after it admitted breaching new rules about the recording of customer complaints.

The industry regulator, Ofgem, said an audit revealed six occasions when EDF failed to record complaints properly. The breaches, between October 2008 and March 2009, had since been corrected.

EDF avoided a fine by making a £200,000 payment to charities which help consumers.
