Britain has slipped eight places to 28th for the production of clean technology, such as recycling plants and biofuels, over the past two years.

According to a forthcoming report by the Dutch arm of WWF, the environment lobby, the UK is falling behind the likes of China and Denmark. Other indices place Britain further up the rankings, but focus more on the adoption of and investment in clean technologies, a better measure of economic contribution.
