The Co-operative Group is to buy 10 Costcutter stores in London, with plans to start trading as their own food stores before Christmas.
The stores, which employ 180 staff, will undergo a full refit next year under a £3 million investment.
Steve Murrells, of the Co-op, said: "This acquisition marks another important step in our plans to expand."
