CRH, the building materials group, has announced that its chief executive Myles Lee will retire at the end of the year after five years at the helm and 10 years as an executive director.

CRH announced Mr Lee's retirement, at the age of 60, as the group unveiled a 5 per cent drop in pre-tax profits to €674m (£580m).

The company said that it continued to suffer from weakening investor and consumer confidence in the eurozone.
