A busy ferry route between Dover and Boulogne could close, its operator said yesterday, threatening as many as 100 jobs.
LD Lines said that it was considering options designed to keep a freight-only service open, and that it would make a decision in due course. The passenger route will close after the company decided that one of its two ships on the Dover-Boulogne service would be transferred to a new route between France and Spain.
"Whilst we are disappointed to have to announce the ending of a tourist passenger service between Dover and Boulogne, as the addition of a second ship has not generated the extra traffic volumes we had hoped for, we will continue to explore every option to try and maintain some form of ferry service to Boulogne," said Christophe Santoni, LD's managing director. The RMT union said that it is seeking meetings with management.Reuse content
