Dulux maker moves plant in North-east

The maker of Dulux paints and Polycell fillers is to build a new £100m production plant in Northumberland.

The Dutch company AkzoNobel said its new facility would be within 25 miles of its existing plant at Prudhoe and was expected to be operating by the end of 2014. It will close the Prudhoe factory and the manufacturing unit at its Slough facility once the new factory is up and running.

These two plants employ 220 people in manufacturing, and Akzo said it had begun a three-month consultation with staff before making a final decision on its plans.
