Enterprise Inns hits out at beer duty
The chief executive of the pubs chain Enterprise Inns has launched a stinging attack on the Government's beer-duty policy.
Ted Tuppen said the "ill-conceived" duty escalator had put 55p on the cost of an average pint since it was introduced in 2008. Enterprise Inns, which has net debt of £2.7bn, posted pre-tax profits of £34m in the year to 30 September, compared with a loss of £14m over the previous 12 months.
