'Footie to Footsie' website set to lure fans

Britain's first "footie to Footsie" website will be launched this week - aimed at the market-watching fans of the beautiful game.

Financial research site, DigitalLook.com, plans to include footballing news in its e-bulletins in time for the start of the new season.

Managing director, Mark Pritchard, believes the addition of football news to the site will treble its current subscriber base of around 100,000 users by the end of the year.

By combining the two subjects close to the hearts of the site's existing, mainly male subscribers, Pritchard believes he is on to a winner with the launch of Football Look.

He said: "Our research has shown us that people who love finance, love football.

"Football was one subject we thought we could apply our technology to, so people could get news about the teams they follow along with information about stocks.

"We find all those vital bits of news and information you need to know about your favourite club, then we alert you to it wherever you are and whatever you are doing."

The free service means that football fans will be able to access news by e-mail, fax, hand-held computer or any WAP-enabled phone."

The launch follows research from consultancy MMXI which showed that football sites have become among the most popular destinations on the net in the wake of Euro 2000.
