Fury today greeted petrol giant Royal Dutch/Shell announcement that it made a record £9.04 billion last year.

Fuel protestors who brought the country to a standstill in September say the figure is a disgrace and that Shell should cut its prices.

The figure represents a huge 85 percent jump in earnings over the past year.

The group said the growth had been helped by higher oil and gas prices.

Protest leaders have threatened to take repeat action unless the Government also reduces tax on fuel.
