Bermudan reinsurer Haverford said yesterday it was abandoning talks to buy a 25 per cent stake in Lloyd's of London insurer Omega after the two parties failed to agree a price.

It came as rival insurer Amlin said it has increased its own coverage against $150m (£96m) of claims relating to hurricanes, such as Katrina, pictured, and earthquakes in the US and storms in Europe.
