Jump in card and PIN thefts at ATMs
The theft of cards and PINs at ATMs trebled in the first four months of 2013 against the same period last year.
Financial Fraud Action UK said there were 7,525 incidents from January to the end of April, compared with 2,553 in the same period last year. It said the numbers appeared to be increasing every month. Police said the rise is partly because more secure chip-and-pin cards have cut the scope for hi-tech fraud.
