Marks & Spencer on the lookout for a 'multi-channel retailing' director

Marks & Spencer is to boost its senior management team with the appointment of a multi-channel division director.

Multi-channel retailing refers to sales by phone, computer or other means where a customer does not have to physically enter a shop. The new director will sit beside the retail chief, Steve Rowe, who manages M&S's 700-store portfolio. The search comes as Robert Swannell, a veteran investment banker, emerges as favourite to take over from the chairman, Sir Stuart Rose.
