McDonald's toasts breakfast and coffee sales

The fast-food giant McDonald's has delivered a surge in first-quarter sales in Britain, despite the January snow and a flat eating-out market. The UK operation gorged on underlying sales up by 8.6 per cent in the first three months of the year.

Steve Easterbrook, McDonald's UK chief executive, said: "This was largely driven by customer growth." He added that it performed strongly across its menu, but he singled out breakfast and coffee sales.
