The Microsoft Corporation today lost its appeal against a ruling that it violated US anti-trust laws.

The US Supreme Court declined to review the 28 June ruling by the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, which said Microsoft had illegally maintained its monopoly over personal computer operating systems.

Microsoft argued that the original ruling was tainted because of the 'misconduct' of District Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson.

He compared Microsoft executives to common criminals.
