Million-tonne target for tin mine in Cornwall
South Crofty mine in Cornwall could be producing 1 million tonnes of copper, zinc and tin within three years of starting production, its owner, Western United Mines, said yesterday.
The mine was the last tin mine in Europe when it closed in 1998, when tin was trading at about a third of current levels above $17,000 a tonne. WUM is looking for another £10m investment on top of the £14m it has secured, and is expected eventually to launch a public offering.
