Luxury leather brand Mulberry has teamed up with Scottish coat maker Mackintosh to launch a new line.

The pair have created a £1,750 mac, made in Scotland, which will be sold through online retailer Net-A-Porter from November.

Mackintosh, created by Scottish chemist Charles Macintosh, still uses the same rubberised material first produced in 1823. The first item – the Dotty Mackintosh – marks a new avenue for Mulberry.

Under designer Emma Hill, it has been branching out into clothing to compete with other luxury brands. Ms Hill left the brand after its catwalk show earlier this month, and Mulberry is searching for a replacement.
