The Nottingham Forest owner and private equity tycoon Nigel Doughty died of natural causes, an inquest found yesterday.
Mr Doughty was one of the most successful private equity investors of his generation and invested £100m of his profits into the Championship club before resigning as chairman in October 2011.
Post-mortem tests showed that he died after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest, and the cause of death was sudden adult death syndrome. The coroner heard that Mr Doughty, who was born in east London, had told his family he was going to work out in the gym at his home but was found "collapsed and lifeless" about half an hour later. He was 54.
