Luxury carmaker Rolls-Royce, part of the BMW Group, has confirmed the development of 102EX, a one-off, fully electric-powered version of its Phantom limousine which will debut at the Geneva Motor Show next week.
The car, says Rolls-Royce, will "serve as a test bed to gather a bank of research data which will be crucial in informing future decisions on alternative drive-trains".
Chief executive Torsten Müller-Ötvös added: "With this vehicle, we begin an exploration into alternative drive-trains, seeking clarity on which alternative technologies may be suitable to drive Rolls-Royce motor cars of the future."
Through test drives, owners will be able to experience the car and share their concerns with Rolls-Royce. An almost-silent electric car would be in line with the firm's reputation for refinement.
