Rolls-Royce in £1bn subs deal
Tuesday 19 June 2012
Rolls-Royce has signed a contract worth more than £1bn with the Government to make reactor cores for the UK's next generation of nuclear-powered submarines.
The investment, which is expected to protect about 300 jobs at the aerospace maker and its suppliers, could put a strain on the Coalition Government, which is split over plans to replace Britain's four Vanguard nuclear deterrent submarines at an estimated £25bn when they retire from service in the 2020s.
