Times Newspapers has appointed Baroness Hogg, the serial City director and former business editor of The Independent, to its board.
Married to the Conservative former cabinet minister Douglas Hogg (Viscount Hailsham), Sarah Hogg is a crossbencher in the Lords and lists other non-executive directorships at the gas explorer BG and John Lewis Partnership. She is a member of the Takeover Panel and the CMi mentoring network and is a senior director at HM Treasury.
Until earlier this year she ran the Financial Reporting Council, the accountancy regulator which sets governance codes for boardrooms.
The Times and its sister companies were criticised recently for issuing press releases about their profits that, when the full accounts were published a few weeks later, proved to be painting an overly positive picture of their finances.
