Despite the growth in the alternatives to scheduled television more than 95 per cent of all television programmes watched in 2012 will be live or within a day of the original broadcast, according to Deloitte's latest Media and Technology report, released yesterday.
Jolyon Barker, Deloitte's global head for technology, media and telecommunications, said: "Technology has not shattered the TV schedule: it has made it more resilient, through making it more flexible." According to the report the growth in revenue from social games will slow to less than 20 per cent in 2012, while online coupon companies – such as Groupon – will be hit by increased competition. The report also forecasts record numbers of smartphones and tablets will be sold as demand increases and individuals start to own multiple tablets.
