The former chief executive of Rolls-Royce Sir John Rose has agreed to join independent investment bank Rothschild as deputy chairman.

The industrialist, who was chief executive of the engine maker Rolls-Royce for 15 years, will start at Rothschild at the beginning of next month. This marks his first appointment since stepping down this year.

Sir John's role at Rothschild will focus on developing the strategy and boosting its international profile. He will work closely with executive chairman David de Rothschild. Mr de Rothschild said: "He is one of Europe's foremost business leaders and he will bring to Rothschild, and our clients, the experience gained in developing a great industrial company with a track of record of success around the world."

Sir John said he was looking forward to joining a private company that "takes a long-term view" after spending most of his career on the public markets. "I believe I can play a strong role in helping build the business and use my experience of operating in international markets."
