Sir Mervyn King yesterday became the first Bank of England Governor to appear on Desert Island Discs.

Revealing he was taking a gap year and planned to learn how to dance once he steps down at the end of the month, Sir Mervyn reflected on the state of the economy, the financial crisis and his undying love of cricket and all things Aston Villa. He picked a host of classical music tracks, the Channel Four cricket coverage theme tune Mambo Number Five and the Bob Dylan classic 1965 song Highway 61 Revisited.
