Steinway tunes up for £292m sale

Steinway Musical Instruments, maker of the most famous pianos in the world, has been sold for $438m (£292m). Private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts is buying the 160-year-old business off the New York Stock Exchange, where its ticker code is LVB in memory of Ludwig Von Beethoven. The business was founded in Manhattan by German immigrant Heinrich Engelhard Steinweg, who later anglicised his name to Steinway.
