Stelios Haji-Ioannou, the entrepreneur who has brought the public everything from cut-price air travel to budget hotel rooms, is expanding into discounted DVDs.

His easyCinema offshoot is to launch an online service offering the latest Hollywood releases, world cinema and TV series for rental at prices starting from £1.99. Customers will be able to choose from 25,000 titles - 10 times the number stocked by high street outlets, according to Mr Haji-Ioannou.

The new DVD service will be run by Video Island, the UK's biggest online DVD rental company, with easyCinema earning a fee for every DVD rented through its website.

The initiative is the latest instance of Mr Haji-Ioannou moving into brand management and licensing out the "easy" name. Easy4mentoiletriesis due to launch next week in conjunction with Boots.

James Rothnie, the director of corporate affairs, said such deals quickly made money because the capital investment was extremely small.

EasyCinema, which so far consists of one outlet in Milton Keynes, got off to a poor start because of the refusal of big distributors to provide first-run Hollywood films. But Mr Rothnie said this problem had been resolved since the early summer.
