Sugar to replace Meek at YouView
Tuesday 08 March 2011
Alan Sugar has been named as chairman of YouView, the internet television venture, replacing the former Ofcom director Kip Meek after just eight months.
Mr Meek, who joined YouView in July, said it had been "apparent for some time" that YouView needed additional expertise in marketing and technology delivery. "Lord Sugar clearly supplies this. As the venture progresses towards launch, the change in chairman makes sense."
This comes shortly after news that launch of YouView would be delayed from this summer until 2012 following a failure to agree on technical standards. YouView, which is designed to bring on-demand videos to the living room, is backed by companies including the BBC, ITV, BT and TalkTalk.
