Vauxhall Motors has announced it is to cut the price of its UK cars by up to 12%.

The news is the latest in a series of attempts by the car industry to refute claims that it is charging excessive prices in the British market, following on from Ford's announcement of price cuts ten days ago.

Car makers have been coming under pressure from the Government, which wants to reduce the gap between UK prices and those in mainland Europe, where they are about 10 percent lower.

A statement released by Vauxhall said that the changes would mean about £1,500 coming off the price of an Astra SXi.

The firm also revealed that it intends to expand its internet operation, with every car model, option, colour and accessory would be available over the Internet from November 9.
