Vodafone shuffles top management

By James Thompson

Mobile phone giant Vodafone has promoted two directors to run its emerging markets division and appointed a new UK chief executive, in the latest move by chief executive Vittorio Colao.

Earlier this month, Vodafone said it would separate its emerging markets division into two and hire two new bosses to focus on the group's higher growth markets. Nick Read, chief executive of Vodafone UK, has been appointed chief executive of its Asia Pacific and Middle East region that comprises Vodafone's operations in Australia, China, Egypt, Fiji, India, New Zealand and Qatar.

Morten Lundal, the chief executive of Middle East and Africa within the emerging markets unit, will run Central Europe and Africa. Guy Laurence, chief executive of Vodafone Netherlands, will become chief executive of Vodafone UK.
