Sir Martin Sorrell, advertising giant WPP's chief executive, is joining the board of Stanhope Capital, one of Britain's biggest wealth-management groups – with $7.5bn of funds.

Sir Martin will sit on the advisory board, which is chaired by former BP boss Lord Browne. Stanhope's chairman and managing partner, Daniel Pinto, who has known Sir Martin for 15 years, said the WPP chief's huge experience of the global economy will be of great value to the group as it reviews investment opportunities around the world. "Sir Martin and his WPP group work for around 350 of the world's 500 biggest companies, so he has a great view of what's happening in the real world."

Mr Pinto added that Stanhope, which provides independent advice to its clients, is growing rapidly.

Sir Martin and Lord Browne are part of the firm's drive towards international expansion.
