The Wylfa nuclear power station is to operate up to December 2012, making use of a two-year lifetime extension granted yesterday, the UK Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) said.

The 1,240 megawatt nuclear power station, which is operated by Magnox North on behalf of the NDA, was scheduled to close at the end of this year. The owner will make more than £100m in revenues from selling Wylfa's nuclear power to the national electricity grid over the coming two years, the NDA said.
