ired of your callers being irritated by the endless "ring ring" while waiting for you to answer the phone? Connecting will no longer be a chore as T-Mobile has come up with Caller Tunes, a service that allows you to choose the music callers hear before you pick up the phone.

Customers can take their pick from over 100 songs, including "Hole in the head" by the Sugababes, "In da club" by 50 cent and "You're the first, the last, my everything" by Barry White. The selection also includes film music with theme tunes from favourites such as Pulp Fiction, The Full Monty and Rocky III. "We have hip-hop, pop, soul and rock as well as classical. As for myself, I've got 'Rocking around the Christmas tree' by Brenda Lee and all our staff have 'I feel good' by James Brown," said Sandy Munro, T-Mobile's director of marketing.

Caller Tunes is the first of its kind in Europe, but it has been a huge success in Asia. Half of the mobile users in South Korea, where the service was launched 18 months ago, have taken it up. The service is now available in China, Malaysia and Japan.

"We think it will be taken up right across the age groups," Mr Munro said. "It's been very encouraging so far in terms of numbers and it's creating a buzz in the company at the moment."
