The internet TV services backed by the BBC yesterday admitted its launch date had been delayed, adding that set-top boxes would not hit the shelves until next year.
YouView, previously known as Project Canvas, was initially expected to see the first set-top boxes launched last Christmas.
Yet, the joint venture – which also comprises ITV, Channel 4, Five BT, TalkTalk and Arqiva – said the "timings for the launch reflect the scale and complexity of the project".
Richard Halton, chief executive of YouView, said the focus had always been to deliver a product "that is right, but not rushed".
YouView plans to bring online catch-up television shows, such as those on iPlayer, into the living room with a broadband connection.Reuse content
