Yum Brands, the Kentucky-based owner of the KFC fried chicken chain, raised its profit forecasts after second-quarter sales in China beat Wall Street's expectations.

China, where KFC is the largest Western restaurant brand, now accounts for more than 40 per cent of profits at Yum, which also owns the Pizza Hut and Taco Bell brands. Its sales there rose 18 per cent at established KFC outlets.
