WHAT'S THE connection between Norman Lamont, the ex Chancellor, Alistair Darling, the current Cabinet minister, and Jim Clark, the legendary British racing driver? They all attended Loretto School, Musselburgh, near Edinburgh.

An old boy of the school who spent his career with HSBC out East has left it pounds 1.3m in his will.

The school only found out about the bequest by Donald Lachlan 10 years after he died, following the death of his widow, Caroline, at the end of last year.

The school intends to spend the money on a new communications centre.
