SHERWOOD International, the IT support group, is no stranger to high society, thanks to its Old Etonian marketeer Ross Gow. However, nothing prepared George Matthews, Sherwood's Ulster-born chief executive, for a recent invitation to a summer function hosted by the Lord Mayor of London, Lord Levene of Portsoken.

The invite was addressed to "Sir George Matthews". The delighted IT boss is awaiting his invitation to the Palace, I hear.
