Pizza group set for UK expansion
DOMINO'S Pizza International, the American home delivery pizza franchise, is planning to open 200 outlets in Britain and Ireland over the next four years, writes Neil Thapar.
The expansion is to be spearheaded by the millionaire brothers Colin and Gerry Halpern, who yesterday acquired Domino's UK master franchise from the parent group for an undisclosed sum, believed to be several million pounds.
Before the deal, Domino's directly controlled its 77 franchised outlets in the UK, but it has brought in the brothers to develop the chain further.
The group, which has 5,200 outlets worldwide, first entered the UK market almost 10 years ago.
Born in London, the Halpern brothers have spent most their business careers in US, where they reputedly made a fortune by developing the New York franchise of Budget Car, the rental company.
