Pubs get facelift

SCOTTISH & NEWCASTLE is spending pounds 21m over the next two years to refurbish 150 local pubs, create 750 extra jobs and try to win back customers who have stopped going to the pub. The pubs will all be in residential locations catering for local communities, who have been bypassed by the craze for rebranding pubs in town centres and on main routes.

The refurbished pubs will keep their original names and an individual feel, and provide their own programmes of entertainment and events, but will be given the brand name WJ&J Sanderson.
