THE NUMBER of "rogue" directors disqualified as unfit to run a public company rose by more than a third in the third quarter of last year, the Government announced yesterday.

Kim Howells, Minister for Competition and Consumer Affairs at the Department of Trade and Industry, issued the figures as he hailed the success of a "Defiant Directors Hotline" set up by the DTI a year ago to tackle rogue directors and bankrupts who continue to operate in the face of court bans. The 1,200 calls received by the Insolvency Service have pushed the number of allegations of law breaking up by 40 per cent over the previous year. The service is considering prosecutions in over 100 cases. The Hotline number is 0845 601 3546.
