RJR Nabisco, the US food and tobacco giant, has recruited as its new chief executive a one-time smoker who quit after suffering a heart attack. Charles Harper is joining RJR from ConAgra, the second-largest food processor in the US, where he was instrumental in introducing healthier foods. In 1992, RJR's turnover amounted to dollars 15.7bn (pounds 10.1bn), with dollars 9bn coming from tobacco and dollars 6.7bn from food.
