UK e-commerce to reach pounds 3.1bn

THE TOTAL value of UK transactions performed over the Internet will rise to pounds 3.1bn in 2003 from just pounds 230m last year, according to a consumer behaviour survey commissioned by Internet software company Gresham Computing. The study found that one in five 16 to 24-year-olds expected to be placing an order over the Internet in the next year. Almost half those surveyed said they would welcome a system whereby they could shop without visiting the High Street. Eight per cent of those who had purchased a PC had placed an order through the Internet. A quarter said they would be subscribing to cable or satellite.
